Here’s how it started: ”I’m interested in having some portraits done of my 4 little geriatric dogs. . . . I would like to have them all together in one portrait – one is blind (and stubborn), one is a diva, the other two might respond a little better to orders but none of them is really “trained.” Am I crazy?? I’d just like to capture them all together since they’re getting older and they’re such a huge part of my life.”

And, here’s how it ended:

All four of these dogs were adopted. Ninja and Sassy came from the Best DAWG rescue in Bethesda, MD. Poppy came from the Animal Welfare Society of Howard County and was blind when he was adopted. They thought he’d live the rest of his life there until his adopter saw him and knew he had to join her family. Keebler was adopted from the Orange County Animal Shelter in Chapel Hill, NC. They couldn’t be more loved.

Keebler loves to lounge on the furniture.

Here is how Keebler and Sassy looked as we were leaving. Poppy and Ninja were sleeping in the other room.

Trixie and Spritle are two adorable dogs but don’t take my word for it, see for yourself. They were adopted as a pair from Papillon 911 Rescue and Adoption, Inc., who had rescued them from a very bad situation. Boy, did they get lucky. They share their new house with two cats and two very loving owners. The goal of our session was to create three portraits that could be framed and hung on the wall next to each other. Here are the final choices:

And here’s one just for fun. When Trixie and Spritle first came to their new home, they hardly had any hair on their tails. Now, their tails are full and beautiful – and they wag a lot!

One of the cool things about what I do is that I never know what I’m going to learn. During this session, I learned about the names Trixie and Spritle. They are two cartoon characters in Speed Racer. Speed Racer was one of the first truly successful anime franchises in the United States. Trixie and Spritle accompany Speed on his adventures and help get him out of trouble.
