German Shepherds – Jager and Panzer

Jager and Panzer are beautiful German Shepherds and the most well-trained dogs I’ve probably ever met.  We went in search of a variety of outdoor locations . . .shepherds_gate

. . . and found this wonderful old gate.

Fun Day at the Shelter (Animal Welfare League of Arlington)

The dogs were especially animated today so I wanted to share a few of the images and outtakes.  All of these dogs are currently (as of 8/28/09) up for adoption from the Animal Welfare League of Arlington.

Rocky – Gone but Never Forgotten

Rocky was a huge German Shepherd Dog with the sweetest and goofiest personality.  He was adopted from a family who couldn’t give him the care he needed and became his owner’s best friend in no time.  I had the pleasure of photographing him several times over the years.  Unfortunately, Rocky recently lost his battle with cancer.  He was an amazing dog and he touched a lot of hearts.  Here are just a few glimpses into Rocky’s life - these will be part of a coffee table book for his owner.Rocky CloseupRocky RunningRocky walking with his ownerRocky and his owner under a treeRocky at the Cherry Blossoms

This isn’t the first time images of Rocky have been on our blog – here are some images from a sunrise session we had in Washington, DC:

Remembering Those Who Served

German Shepherd Korean War Memorial

The German Shepherd Dog in this portrait was owned by 1Lt Joshua L. Booth, U.S.M.C. (K.I.A. 10.17.06, Al Anbar, Iraq) who was killed in Iraq.  Josh and his family were based at Kanehoe Bay Marine Corps Base in Hawaii.  After Joshua’s passing, rather than leaving Roxy behind, the family brought her home to the mainland where she continues to be a beloved family member. K9 Roxy is now a Search and Rescue (SAR) canine and part of a K9 SAR team in Virginia. She serves as a living affirmation of Josh’s life, and like Josh, she lives and works to serve others.
