As a change of pace, I had the opportunity to photograph bison at a local farm. They are truly amazing creatures. They look cute and cuddly and were incredible to photograph, but you want to keep your distance. Weighing up to 2,400 lbs, they could take you out with a swing of their head. Here are a few of the images.

This is a cow providing shade for her calf.
And this is one of the working dogs out at the ranch . . . (I can’t pass up photographing a cute dog!)

The ranch is the Cibola farm in Culpepper, VA. They offer tours if you’re ever interested in seeing these amazing creatures in person.
I got to see their working dog, a Maremma Sheepdog, at work guarding the farm animals. Here he is along with some of the animals he protects:

This is the bison herd on the move.
This is the head honcho of the herd. He has a backup, but they pretty much stay clear of each other, and we were sure to stay clear of him.
This was a cute little bison calf. I guess “little” is relative.
