Horse images – Around the Barn – Part 1

I hope to create more horse images this year.  I actually had a horse for a few years as a kid.  He was more of a pony, actually, (13.5 hands) – and his name was Frank.  If you can believe it, his full name was Frankenstein.  He was a very sweet pony and spending so much time with him made me very comfortable around horses.  I broke my arm when I fell off once, but my sister made me get back on and ride home – it was a good move – otherwise I think I would have held on to the initial fear of falling off.  (thanks, sis!)  I am one of those people who loves the smell of a barn.  Here are a few of my favorite images after getting up early to hang around a barn just for fun.

These images were created at the Northern Virginia Animal Swim Center.  It’s really cool to see the horses swimming in a pool.  I used to take my dog swimming there as well – they have a separate area for dogs.

If you’re trying to picture what a horse swimming pool looks like – here it is:

You can see the ramp on the far right – that’s how the horses get into the pool.  No diving boards here. :)

Just for Fun Friday – Tug – Is The Week Over Yet?

Well, this deserves a better caption but I couldn’t think of one.  If you can, please leave it in the comments.

. . . and a cat named Ed

Ed is Tug’s older brother.  Here is Ed’s story as told by his human:

Ed was born in Occoquan, Virginia.  My friend “Ed” lives right on the river and in 1993 a feral pregnant cat appeared at his back door and gave birth to 5 kittens.  We went down and picked out our Ed and also found homes for the other 4 kittens.  They were all indoor/outdoor cats while living there.  After they got a little older the human Ed would catch a fish every now and then and present it to the mother cat and her kittens.  What a delicacy.  Ed has been in our home since June of 1993 and he has absolutely no desire to ever leave his house for the outdoors.

A Cat named Tug . . .

I photographed Tug and his brother Ed several years ago and I was thrilled to get the chance to photograph them again more recently.  We’re going to include both sessions to create a beautiful coffee table book.    Here are some of the new images of Tug, who was adopted from the Animal Welfare League of Arlington – his owner is a long-time volunteer there.

He’s as handsome as ever, and still very playful!

I call this one – “Little, big cat”.  I loved the huge shadow.

Stay tuned for his gorgeous brother, Ed.
